What is Financial Abuse?

June 2024,

For everything that happens to attract you as a total stranger, It’s always about the money, ads someone compliments free gifts, and many other “too good to be true” things. It’s always about the money. I was recently approached by someone asking for my help to promote a special project. They asked me to post this information on my blog.

Financial abuse occurs in up to 98% of abusive relationships and is one of the top reasons that it is difficult for people to leave. Unfortunately, many people do not even recognize financial abuse as abuse. It may start with something simple, like a small ask for some money or to give up a little bit of control. But it can grow over time and eventually result in a victim. In my book, I often mention his control over money. I was shamed and coerced to give up control of my money. I did not recognize this as abuse. He used my money to prepare for the time when I would be gone from his life. He would withdraw from the account regularly, I did not know, and I trusted him too much. He never deposited in that account, I deposited my pay there, but he had access. That was my mistake. I trusted him. The money he pulled out was deposited into a joint account he had with his wife. I discovered this when preparing for court. Love is trust, and I never thought he would be dishonest. Can we really trust those closest to us? Once, the mortgage caused several checks to bounce, I thought I made a mistake and I had private savings, so I covered them. When. I discovered all the withdrawals as I was preparing for court. I learned he transferred money into their account. It just gave the account numbers, and I knew that was not my account number that it went into. If you are abused in other ways, this is certainly another type of abuse you may not have considered as happening as well. There are two links below to learn more that are very helpful.
